2024 FFG Success Story: evodis – Navigating the New Era of Upcoming In-vehicle Digital Services
S
Emerging in-vehicle operating systems like AAOS or Apple Carplay are driving the evolution of digital services such as advanced assistance systems or driver-centric applications based on vehicle-generated data.
However, it is crucial for the success of these applications that they are not simply ported from the tablet or cell phone, but also offer significant added value, especially in the vehicle. The apps achieve this added value primarily through direct data access to the vehicle data. The data can be analyzed directly in the car – to a significant extend based on AI – and the results can then be processed directly in the car without the raw data being sent to external servers.
The “evodis” Innovation Environment for evolving digital in-vehicle services provides a software platform based on multiple tech building blocks for rapid development, prototyping, evaluation and demonstration, offering highest flexibility for different use cases.
Infotainment systems in vehicles are developing rapidly in terms of scope and capability. The market is growing and opening up to third-party providers and their services and applications.
Provided that the vehicle manufacturers enable the data connection and provide the necessary interfaces, various use cases can be implemented with the evodis vehicle demonstrator platform.
With evodis, VIRTUAL VEHICLE has realized a comprehensive evaluation environment for partners, developing new services or utilizing a real vehicle retrofitted with AAOS and corresponding technical, service-related building blocks. This real-world laboratory lowers the entry barrier for new service concepts and hands-on development and thorough testing, minimizing risks at an early stage. Such an approach ensures that a future digital service product meets market needs and expectations, accelerating the innovation process.
VIRTUAL VEHICLE acts in the role of a “Demo OEM” and third-party provider that can offer its research and cooperation partners full, vertical data access to in-vehicle networks and develop and build new prototypical applications. All relevant vehicle data can be processed directly via the evodis platform. This enables third-party providers to test and evaluate their app concepts directly in the vehicle. Additional sensors can also be added to the vehicle if required.
evodis also enables full control over the infotainment operating system (AAOS) and can add further features to it if required.
CES, the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is one of the most powerful tech events in the world — the proving ground for breakthrough technologies and global innovators. At CES 2025, VIRTUAL VEHICLE had the opportunity to present its evodis platform to world leading OEMs, Tier suppliers and potential customers. It was an excellent chance to connect with key players of the digital cockpit domain powered by AAOS. Together with one of VIRTUAL VEHICLE’s partners, the evodis team gained exclusive insights into new hard- and software solutions for SDV’s (software-defined vehicles), and what is coming next. This was not only extremely inspiring but also gave important hints on how to further develop the evodis platform.
