SPIRIT Award for Women in Science: 2nd place for Laura Gregorc

Great success for VIRTUAL VEHICLE Research GmbH:

Laura Gregorc was awarded 2nd place in the SPIRIT Award for Women in Science in the category Angewandte Forschung – Junior Scientists.

The SPIRIT Award recognizes outstanding female researchers in Styria who contribute to the advancement of research and society through their excellent scientific work, innovative strength, and personal commitment. From more than 100 submissions, 25 female scientists made it onto the shortlist, from which a jury of experts and a public vote determined the winners.

In her field of research, Laura Gregorc works on optimizing AI models for use directly in vehicles, where limited computing power and energy availability pose particular challenges. The goal is to design powerful AI algorithms that can be executed efficiently, robustly, and in a resource-saving manner on embedded systems.

A central focus is on the secure and privacy-friendly application of AI models. Local processing of sensitive data in the vehicle not only strengthens data protection but also increases functional safety. The approaches developed contribute to further improving vehicle safety systems while enabling new comfort features in the vehicle.

Laura Gregorc impressed the jury with the high practical relevance of her work and her contribution to bridging the gap between AI research and industrial application. Her projects are exemplary of VIRTUAL VEHICLE’s applied research approach.

We congratulate her on this great success.
