Our Test Bench – Your Solution

BatteryLab

What Does Battery Safety Mean?

By combining simulation, modeling and our various laboratories, we accelerate the development of safer batteries.

Based on data analysis our reserarch tackles topics like powertrains and renewable energies. The findings support the development of safe batteries for all stages: predevelopment, series development, and basic research.

Our Contribution

  • Safety relevant parameters are used for simulation, the design for safe gas-management and to stop thermal runaway propagation
  • Test battery cells, battery pack materials and sensors, which will be used in safe electric cars in the future
  • Special designs to address every customer need or research question
  • Continuity in follow-up projects and services

Our Labs

Ageing Lab

In this test bench, an electrical and a thermal load can be applied to the cell. The temperature range goes down to -60°C, the current range up to 1200A and the voltage range up to 60V.

Cells and small modules up to 60V can be measured:

The following are possible:

  • Current profiles
  • Simulation of driving cycles
  • Continuous measurements over long periods of time
  • Temperature measurement using thermo couples

Our Labs

BattCave – Thermal Runaway Safety

Test bench for testing Li-ion cells and modules outside the manufacturer’s specifications, overtemperature and overcharge tests, gas analysis with µGC and with coupled test bench 8024 (matrix FTIR)

The BattCave Usage

  • Test-rig-development for thermal runaway (TR) characterization
  • Detailed thermal analysis
  • Vent-gas-analysis and modeling
  • (rate/amount, toxicity)
  • TR propagation tests
  • Special thermal-management issues

Our Labs

GPU Simulation Lab

Using state-of-the-art server infrastructure, which comprises of 4 x Nvidia GPUs HGX A100 80GB, as well as 2 x 64 core CPUs, simulations and modeling of batteries with emphasis on Machine Learning is performed.

GPU Lab Usage

  • AI/ML, Deep Learning Training and Inference
  • High-Performance Computing (HPC)
  • State-of-X (SoH, SoC) estimation using ML
  • Large-scale data processing and storage
  • Cloud computing and collaboration
